If you’ve been looking for a way to get the kiddos outdoors in El Paso, Saturday’s Kid Fish Derby at Ascarate Lake will be a great opportunity.

The El Paso County Parks & Recreation Department invites all kids ages 3 to 16 years to fish for free beginning at 7:30 a.m. until 11 am on Saturday, March 10. They will be providing free poles and bait for kids who will compete to see who can catch the biggest fish. The event will also provide free lunch to all kids that participate at 11:30 am, with trophies to be awarded at noon. Several food trucks will also be selling food throughout the event. The first 200 kids will also receive a free shirt.

Ascarate Lake was restocked with 2,000 catfish today, which will give kids a better chance at catching a fish of their own.

All kids that are interested in participating should meet at the pavilion (look for the signs.) Admission to the park will be $2 per vehicle. Ascarate Lake is located at 6900 Delta Dr in the Lower Valley section of El Paso.
