The city of El Paso says they are bringing four 6,000 square foot water parks to various parts of the city. The El Paso City Council awarded a design contract valued at approximately $1.5 million to Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, Inc. on Tuesday.
“These water parks are going to revamp and modernize our aquatics program,” Capital Improvement Department Director Sam Rodriguez said. “They will provide our community with exceptional recreational opportunities. We will achieve that by replacing outdoor rectangular pools that have outlived their useful life, with state of the art outdoor aquatic facilities that will serve people of all ages.”
The water parks, commonly referred to by City staff as regional aquatic facilities, will be located at Chelsea at 900 Radford, Lionel Forti at 1225 Giles, and the other two water parks will be built in the Northeast and the Westside, those locations will be revealed at a later date. The city is also currently designing one for the Eastside Regional Park, which will be located near the intersection of Montana Avenue and Hueco Club Road. A construction timeline will be released once design plans are sent to the city.
“The projects are part of the City of El Paso’s commitment to enhance the quality of life for business, residents and visitors through the creation of recreational, cultural and educational environments,” said a city announcement.
