The tradition of drive-in movies will be making a comeback (at least for a day) on Valentine’s Day, February 14 at Ascarate Park.
El Paso County Parks & Special Events will be showing 50 First Dates on “the largest inflatable screen in the city.” Visitors will be able to watch from their vehicle and listen to the movie via their car radio where the sound will be broadcasted. The sound will also play on speakers outside.
Gates open at five pm and a designated parking area will be ready for cars to park facing the screen. The movie will begin after sundown, approximately at 6:45 pm. Spots are limited and are filled on a first come, first serve basis. There will also be an area available for outdoor seating for those wishing to bring chairs and blankets and enjoy the movie outside of their vehicle.
Food trucks will be onsite for movie snacks and food. No alcohol is allowed in County Parks and those found violating the policy will be asked to leave. All cars should dim their lights upon entering and exiting the movie area, and drive cautiously. The Valentine’s Drive-in is a free family event and there will be no charge for parking that evening.
