Ascarate Park will host the lighting ceremony for the 3rd annual Lights on the Lake at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 9.

This one-night event is free and open to the public and no parking fee will be charged beginning at 3 pm. This year features the Jingle Bell Jog, lighting ceremony, music, food trucks and entertainment for the entire family.

Festivities begin with the Jingle Bell Jog at 5:00 pm. Open to all ages and abilities, as well as pets, participants can run, walk or stroll in their craziest holiday outfits. The Jog begins at 5 p.m. with registration and free jingle bell bracelets. The jog follows the 1.5-mile path around Ascarate Lake. Participants in the Jingle Bell Jog are encouraged to stay for the evening activities.

The evening program begins at 6:00 p.m. with performances by LAT Studios. Following a welcome by County officials, the lights will be switched on throughout the park. Santa and his elves will arrive in the park on his Santa Ship float provided by the El Paso County Juvenile Probation Department. They will be available for photos with visitors. Guests will also have the opportunity to take photos in The Photo Bus and receive free prints of their images. A variety of organizations will have booths with information and activities for everyone to enjoy. The State Supported Living Center Volunteer Services Center will have a variety of carnival-style games to help raise funds for the center’s residents. All booth proceeds go directly to the residents to support their daily lives and activities.

The evening will end with a free showing of A Christmas Story on the largest inflatable screen in the city in a drive-in style. Guests will be directed to the designated movie parking as they arrive for the evening and will be able to listen to the movie on their car radios. A seating area will also be available for those with blankets and chairs.

The lights will be lit nightly in the park through early January for the public to continue to enjoy. Parking fees will apply for the remainder of the weekends. For updates, please visit www.epcountyparks.com
