Just hours after the University of Texas at El Paso announced their new Athletic Director, Head Basketball Coach Tim Floyd says he’s retiring, effective immediately.

“This is the right time. I know it’s the right time,” Tim Floyd told The Prospector during a post-game press conference.

The basketball season is well underway for the Miners, who have only won one out of six games so far this year. In 2016, fans began to protest the University to fire Floyd, even bringing their own signs during games.

Floyd joined the UTEP program in 2010 and was 135–81 (.625) overall. Floyd is the second coach to leave the UTEP program in the middle of the season this year. Football Coach Sean Kugler announced his departure in October.

No word who will serve as the interim basketball coach.
