While the city of El Paso anxiously awaits the start of the holiday season with the downtown tree lighting this weekend, three residents decided they wanted in on some of the awesome decorations a little early… so they stole a few.

According to the El Paso Police Department, an undercover officer monitoring the area saw 19-year-old Steven Gutierrez running from the Plaza while carrying two large objects. Gutierrez ran to an awaiting car occupied by the two females that were stopped at a nearby intersection on Oregon St. After Gutierrez jumped into the car they ran the red light and were later stopped by a responding marked patrol unit at I-10 and Copia. The two females are 21-year-old Victoria Elizabeth Rivera and 20-year-old Rocio Espinoza. The three were placed under arrest and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility charged with Theft with a bond of $227.00.

El Paso Police would like to remind the public that San Jacinto Plaza is monitored by on-site security guards, surveillance cameras and both uniformed and plainclothes officers.
