We’ve all seen the pointy mountains that call Las Cruces home. But did you know that it’s also home to a natural waterfall?

It’s called Dripping Springs Natural Area and it’s located in the Organ Mountains. Hop in the car and enjoy the fantastic view of the mountains as they get bigger and bigger while you approach the foothills. You’ll want to bring some comfortable shoes and some sunblock for the short hike, which is easy for every member of the family. (Sorry, no dogs.) A $5 fee per car is due when you park.

On your walk up to the mountain, you’ll be treated to the sights of the ruins of what used to be a hotel and a once thriving vacation spot. There are even several signs with facts about the history of the buildings that you see while on your journey. If you get tired, there are several benches and shaded areas to take a break. It won’t be long until you begin to hear the sound of water dripping from the top of the mountain, and soon enough, you’ll arrive. The spot is perfectly tucked away from the sun, so you’ll be able to hang out and get some photos of your own. Aside from the waterfall, the views of the mountains overlooking the city are breathtaking.

Dripping Springs Natural Area is located at Dripping Springs Road, Las Cruces, NM 88005, on the west side of the Organ Mountains. From Exit 1 on Interstate 25, take University Avenue/Dripping Springs Road east to the end.
