More than a dozen hot air balloons will fill the skies of Elephant Butte Lake this weekend for the 37th annual Elephant Butte Balloon Regatta.

The event kicks off at 7 am on August 19th and 20th with the first balloons inflating and gliding over the lake before ascending into the sky. Guests will be treated to a unique experience as boats will replace trucks, where they’ll chase the balloons from the waters of Elephant Butte.

In addition, this years event will have its first ever balloon glow, where participating pilots will illuminate their balloons from the inside and tether them on the ground for a relaxing afternoon on the beach.

The event will also give visitors an opportunity to ride in a hot air balloon for $195 per person by calling 812-322-2214 and registering on a first come, first served basis. All of the activities will take place at Lions Beach, located in Elephant Butte and are included with your park admission for the day that you pay while entering. Admission is $5 per vehicle for the day with no overnight camping and $8 to $18 per vehicle for overnight camping. See here for more info on pricing.

Elephant Butte is located about 123 miles from El Paso and is a popular Summer destination for locals.
