The El Paso Diablos are set to end their last season ever in El Paso Sunday evening at Cohen Stadium.
General manager Matt LaBranche confirmed to ABC-7 Wednesday that the team will not be playing baseball in 2014 as they look for a new city to call home. The Diablos will finish off the 2013 season in their final home stand against the Sioux City Explorers this weekend. The team is leaving El Paso after city officials announced plans to build a new downtown ballpark to make way for the Tucson Padres Triple-A baseball team.
In June, LaBranche told city council that their “sponsorship and season tickets have been destroyed” due to the downtown ballpark. The new baseball team is expected to arrive in El Paso early next year in time for the 2014 season.
We are touring Cohen Stadium this weekend and will upload photos of their final home stand on this page. Check back for updates.
