USC linebacker Tony Burnett has apologized for his remarks he made about the city of El Paso Sunday night. Read the statement below.
On Sunday, USC linebacker Tony Burnett tweeted “Georgia Tech!? El Paso, Texas!? New Years Eve!? FML.” The tweet resulted in a backlash of El Paso supporters. Burnett responded with “I won’t apologize this is fact. Been there done that.” (See tweets here.) However, now he says he is sorry for his comments.
Statement from Tony Burnett:
Earlier today I made some tweets I regret. To the city of El Paso and representatives of the Hyundai Sun Bowl, I apologize for my remarks. My team and I are grateful for the opportunity to play in our first bowl game in three years … … and we are appreciative of all of the hard work that goes into making the game happen. What I tweeted was not representative of my team or my university. I sincerely apologize and hope my apology is taken at its word. I am excited for the bowl game and I hope we can give you a great show. Thank you for your support and Fight On! I am not perfect. When a mistake is made you apologize.. it is the simplest complexity of life.
